RiverGlen Christian Church’s mission statement is “to create new and better followers of Jesus.” When it came time to plant a new church, leadership decided to add a satellite church for new members in the Pewaukee area. The church would have its own music program and other ministries, but would share a pastor with the home church.
The architectural program includes a multi-purpose auditorium with capacity for 350 people, a large lobby with a café and fireplace for gathering, and a classroom wing for the education program. The state-of-the -art auditorium features a stage projection screen of the pastor’s sermon in real time. The classroom wing includes a divided nursery space for infants and four multi-purpose classrooms for children in grades 1-6 on Sundays and for adult ministries on weekdays. A youth climbing wall near the classrooms provides a place for small children to play before and after church service.
The main public spaces feature durable finishes, like polished concrete floors, for lower maintenance, and colorful carpet tiles for acoustic absorption and warmth.
The overall project design goal was creating a fun, welcoming atmosphere that represented the home church’s values on a very accessible scale. The church feels this approach creates more opportunities to continue their mission.
