Ozark Natural Foods started out as an idea of Cecelia Hitte’s, who moved from Berkley, CA to Fayetteville, AR in 1971. She was looking for healthy and moderately priced alternatives to what was then available. The idea of a member-run Ozark Food Co-op was considered and drew 20 folks who bought $5 “lifetime” memberships in the new co-op. The first food order amounted to about $200 and was placed by 25 dues-paying members in early November 1971. Ozark Food Co-op grew into Ozark Natural Foods and went through numerous transformations.
In 2008, they build their current site at 1554 N. College Ave. in Fayetteville, AR with Madisen Maher Architects featuring prepared foods, produce, bulk groceries, wellness and body care, home and gifts, beer and wine, and more.
